Trae Young had ice in his veins on Thursday as he took over for the Atlanta Hawks in double overtime against the San Antonio Spurs. It was an end-to-end battle and the 22-year-old went absolutely bonkers, scoring 15 of his 28 points in the two OT periods.

This, clearly, was a delightful sight for Hawks coach Nate McMillan as Young led the team to a much-needed road win, 134-129 (via Chris Kirschner of The Athletic).

“I saw a kid that showed growth managing the game. He missed a layup to go into the 1st OT. That could've just crushed a player. I thought he came back and made plays.”

After the Spurs fought back to tie the game in the fourth quarter after a DeMar DeRozan jumper, Young had one last shot to end the game but missed a floater we see him make almost nine out of 10 times. Instead of sulking and disappearing, the shifty guard stepped up and put the Hawks on his back in the two extensions.

He had key buckets down the stretch and found an open Danilo Gallinari in the corner for the dagger three-pointer that ultimately sealed the hard-earned win for the Hawks.

Trae Young finished with 28 points and a team-high 12 assists. Even though he only had two attempts from long range all evening, he made sure to make them when they count as he drilled a three-pointer in each OT period.

The Hawks improved to 24-24 and will next face the New Orleans Pelicans on the road before having a three-game homestand.
