The Atlanta Hawks have promoted general manager Travis Schlenk to president of basketball operations, the team announced in a press release.

Schlenk has been GM of the Hawks since 2017. Atlanta has one of the best young cores in the NBA thanks to Travis.

“We are extremely pleased with the direction that Travis and our entire basketball operations team has us heading as a franchise,” Hawks Principal Owner Tony Ressler said. “He has used the draft to build an impressive young core, hired one of the NBA’s top young coaches in Lloyd Pierce and positioned us to have the cap space, draft picks and financial flexibility needed to have long-term success in the NBA.”

The Hawks' roster is headlined by Trae Young, John Collins, Kevin Huerter, Evan Turner, Jabari Parker, Vince Carter, and rookies Cam Reddish, De'Andre Hunter and Bruno Fernando.

Travis Schlenk is a veteran executive with nearly 20 years experience in the NBA. He joined the Hawks after 13 years with the Golden State Warriors. Schlenk has also worked with the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic.

There are some who believe the Hawks can make the playoffs next season. For that to happen, Young and Collins will have to play like All-Stars on both ends of the floor.
