The Atlanta Hawks have the worst record in the NBA at 8-32. Vince Carter's final season in the NBA isn't going as planned, as before the season started, Hawks point guard Trae Young and other players on the team talked about making the playoffs this season.

Barring some miracle turnaround, it doesn't appear the Hawks will achieve that goal, but that doesn't mean the season will be a waste for Young, who is only a second-year player.

Carter, who has seen it all during his time in the NBA, has his locker right next to Young. The former high-flyer says Young “wants to develop and be a superstar” for the Hawks:

“Coming into the season, that was his goal,” Vince Carter said about the playoffs, via The Athletic. “We tried to do what we had to do to kind of get there. It’s unfortunate our team is not in a position where there’s no debate.

“But I understand what that is. For him (Trae Young), I say, continue to play, continue to be the player that you are, and we’ll go from there… those small things (about winning) are so important. And you throw it out there, throw it out there, throw it out there, until it actually means something and makes sense. I was once there, so I kind of understood that. I understood that these things matter, and they take time.

“For him, he wants to develop and be a superstar. He wants to develop and be a leader. He wants to make a difference… even if you talk about it, the light has to kind of come on its own.”

Young has been invited to participate in the 3-Point Contest and Skills Challenge during All-Star Weekend. The Hawks would certainly love to have Young represent the franchise in Chicago during All-Star Weekend in what has been a dreadful season.

Young is averaging 28.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 8.4 assists in 36 games for the Hawks while shooting 44.2 percent from the field, 36.7 percent from beyond the arc and 84.6 percent from the free-throw line.

The Hawks are one of the teams which has interest in Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond. Young and Drummond are close off the floor. We'll see if the Hawks make a move to get the big man to Atlanta.
