Atlanta Hawks veteran Vince Carter admits he enjoys playing the mentor role in Atlanta.

Last season, Carter worked diligently with Trae Young, John Collins and Kevin Huerter. It's something the former All-Star takes pride in.

However, Carter wants everyone to know he's not trying to be a coach with the Hawks.

“I don’t want people to feel like I’m taking over practice,” Carter said, via Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It’s just that sometimes I see things and it’s a team thing, we’re trying to win. It’s not like I’m trying to be a coach. I don’t want to be a coach, but I want to help these guys. I want to be a mentor, I want to be a leader of the team, even though I’m not the face of the team. I’d love to still be a leader. And these guys can rely on me, good and bad.”

Vince Carter is about to play an NBA-record 22nd season in 2019-20. His NBA career is older than a lot of his teammates.
