Vince Carter is the oldest player in the league today, but the Atlanta Hawks veteran appears not ready to hang up his sneakers after the 2018-19 NBA season.

Carter told Fox Sports Southeast that he is still ready to play in the 2019-20 NBA season. He also added that he is remaining hopeful that a team will express interest in his service next season.

“It's something that I want to do,” Carter said of playing one more season. “I could still give it another year, and hopefully there's a team out there that wants my service. I'm going to prepare as if I am coming back, and we'll go from there. I do want to play another year.”

Carter was selected fifth overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, and has turned into one of the best dunkers in NBA history. He is only of two remaining players from the 1998 Draft Class along with Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki, who is likely playing in his final season in the NBA.

Carter has shown flashes of brilliance this season. The 42-year-old veteran is averaging 7.5 points on top of 2.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists 17.3 minutes per game. In 15 games last month, the eight-time NBA All-Star averaged 10.0 points on top of 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

But more than his productions inside the hardcourt, Carter is providing leadership to the young Hawks team, which is currently building their team around rookie Trae Young. Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce told Robby Kalland of Uproxx last month that Carter provides genuine leadership and creates a different atmosphere insider their locker room.
