The Atlanta Hawks are 22-44 this season, so they'll take hope and optimism wherever they can find it. The latest place to search? Free agency. Sam Amick of The Athletic answered that he believes the Hawks are hopeful that they can at least land a meeting this summer with Kevin Durant:

Teams from coast-to-coast are likely to pull out all the available stops in order to at least get Durant in the room for a meeting, so Atlanta's interest in the superstar isn't surprising. What is surprising is the thought that the organization has in potentially bringing one of the league's most dynamic players into the fold.

Consider: Atlanta will have yet another lottery pick added to the mix next season. While that alone may not sway any high-level free agents, it eventually could lead to an improved roster around said player. Whomever comes aboard will be joining the dynamic, up-and-coming one-two punch of Trae Young and John Collins, neither of whom have yet turned 22 years old. Atlanta currently has a plethora of cap space, a fresh head coach in Lloyd Pierce, a newly renovated arena and a city hungry for a winning hoops team.

The question becomes whether one of the league's least successful teams from 2018-19 can flip the script and essentially outbid the heavy hitters in New York and California for Durant's services. If there's a true wild card in the mix, Atlanta would seem to be just wild enough that it might make sense on multiple levels.
