Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks came out scorching to start the 2019-20 season, but then he suffered an ankle injury that looked quite serious. However, Young’s “Wolverine-like” blood allowed him to recover quickly and return to action on Tuesday night against the San Antonio Spurs.

Young looked a little rusty early, but he came to life in the second half and ultimately lifted the Hawks to victory with his clutch shots and scintillating passes.

Perhaps, however, his most impressive triple came as the shot clock was winding down against Patty Mills, after he which he mocked Mills’ lack of size.

While Young is one to talk when it comes to height — Young and Mills are listed as the same height (6’1”) on Basketball Reference — he certainly has a case for boasting about his performance against San Antonio.

After getting the shocking news that one of the team’s best young players, John Collins, tested positive for a banned substance and will be suspended for the next 25 games, this game was a meaningful one for Atlanta. They clearly wanted to send a message to the NBA after losing their young big man.

Young dropped 29 points and 13 assists in the game against the Spurs, and he was already averaging 26.8 points, 7.3 assists and 5.0 rebounds coming into the matchup.

The team’s win against the Spurs gives them a 3-3 record on the season, and they’ve shown much more fight on the defensive end than they did last season. Let’s hope Young remains healthy and that the loss of Collins doesn’t hurt them too much.
