The Miami Heat acquired Andre Iguodala from the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this month as part of a three-team trade. Expectations were fairly high, as Iggy is a veteran player with postseason experience. However, early returns have not been great.

Iguoadala's story is an interesting one. The three-time champion was dealt from the Warriors to the Grizzlies in July of 2019. Rather than suiting up for Memphis, though, he held out, hoping for a buyout or trade, which finally came to fruition. He agreed to a two-year, $30 million extension with the Heat as part of the trade.

“My wife is always 100 percent honest with me,” Iguodala said to The Undefeated. “I try to play everything cool. She was like, ‘Are you excited?’ I was like,‘No, I’m cool.’ But she knows me best. I’m excited. I’m looking forward to it.”

The sample size is small, but Iguodala has struggled to find a rhythm with the Heat. In his seven appearances with his new team, the 36-year-old has racked up averages of 4.7 points on 48.1 percent shooting from the field, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 20.3 minutes.

On a brighter note, Iguodala is knocking down his three-point attempts at a career-high clip (42.9 percent). Just keep in mind that he's only played in seven games. It's also worth noting that his 20.3 minutes per outing are a career-low.

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra seems to like utilizing Iguodala as a reserve — somewhere in the 20 to 25 minute range. Defense has always been a strong point for Iggy, and he's still capable of flexing that element of his game. However, his on-court net rating is currently sitting at -12.1.

As a team, the Heat (36-22 overall) have played well this season. In fact, the team is projected to be a playoff contender. Recently, though, Miami has lost four of its last five games, including one matchup against the rebuilding Cleveland Cavaliers. Recently-acquired forward Jae Crowder has shot fairly well, but it hasn't been enough in the end.

Another factor playing against the Heat in recent games is the health of Jimmy Butler. He returned to action on Wednesday, scoring 18 points, nine assists, four rebounds and two blocks in 35 minutes in a loss to the Timberwolves. Prior to Wednesday's outing, however, Butler had missed two games due to “personal reasons.”

Perhaps a bit more time to adjust is what Iguodala needs. Patience is required when learning a new playbook. Let's see how he performs as this season plays on.
