As soon as the Miami Heat found out they were not being considered by Gordon Hayward as his next destination, they quickly turned their attention to their own free agents. News immediately surfaced that they are in advanced talks in bringing back James Johnson, and are also negotiating a deal with another key rotation player from last season.

Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press reported that the Heat are also expecting sharpshooting guard Wayne Ellington to ink a new deal with the them, and continue his career in South Beach.

Ellington signed with the Heat last year after spending one season with the Brooklyn Nets. He averaged a career-high 10.5 points, to go along with 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 24.2 minutes per game. He made a total of 62 appearances and added depth to their guard rotation, together with Josh Richardson and Dion Waiters.

The 29-year-old North Carolina product should still receive the same amount of playing time, especially with the Heat appearing to have the same lineup next season. If that will be the case, Ellington will have the chance to continue playing solid basketball for his team, and build on the momentum he built this past year.
