When talking about the 2020-21 Defensive Player of the Year, fans and experts alike often mention Ben Simmons and Rudy Gobert. However, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo believes he has made a strong case for the award as well.

After helping Miami edge out the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, Adebayo made sure to remind everyone about his prowess as a defensive player. When Dwyane Wade asked him about his “weak fro,” Adebayo claimed it is helping him win Defensive Player of the Year.

When grilled further to elaborate on his proclamation, the Heat star had only five words to say to those doubting his credentials: “I do everything on defense.”

Sure enough, Bam Adebayo has every right to say he should win Defensive Player of the Year. After all, he is currently third in the latest race standing made by Steve Aschburner of NBA.com, noting  how he has put the clamps on the likes of Stephen Curry, Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, Kyrie Irving and LeBron James over their past .

On Tuesday against the Celtics, Adebayo finished with 22 points while recording seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks for the Heat.

Sure enough, it might be a little too late now for Adebayo to make a run for DPOY, especially with Gobert and Simmons seemingly separating themselves from the rest of the pack. However, there is no doubt that people should start putting more respect on Adebayo's name as a defensive player.

In hindsight, that game-winning block he did on Jayson Tatum in the 2020 East Finals was a sign of things to come.
