When LeBron James and Chris Bosh took their talents to South Beach in 2010 to join forces with Dwyane Wade on the Miami Heat, many proclaimed that team was the first superteam assembled in NBA history.

It was also the first time star players took control of their own destiny in free agency by recognizing their power, something Chris Bosh says shouldn't go unnoticed.

Via Sekou Smith of NBA.com:

“I mean, we definitely thought outside the box a bit,” Bosh said. “And that’s what kind of changed the whole landscape, because it was more so a situation where, ‘Hey, I’m going to lock into this and that’s going to be it because that’s how you do it.’ And it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way.

“You can make your own decisions. So that’s really the event or thing that started this whole narrative. There will be a day when we’re able to look back on those moments and say, ‘Oh remember this or remember that.’ And that’s why we’re here in this day with the modern athlete.”

Since 2010, a lot of star players in the league have realized the power they truly have at their disposal. Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder and joined the Golden State Warriors in free agency. Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and now Jimmy Butler have requested trades while still under contract.

It's a different era now for players. Guys saw what LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade did and are taking advantage of any leverage they have.
