Derrick Jones Jr. is happy that he will be staying with the Miami Heat after his name was mentioned in a recent trade.

Jones admitted that he thought he would be a part of the deal that would bring Jimmy Butler to South Beach. But when the dust settled, the 22-year-old remained a Heat, and he felt a sigh of relief. The former UNLV standout said that he really wanted to stay in Miami.

“I saw my name so yeah I was worried,” Jones said via Will Manso of Fox Sports. “But at the end of the day I’m not going anywhere. I love it here and they love me here.”

The incoming fourth-year forward said that he is also excited that they acquired an All-Star caliber guard in Jimmy Butler. The Heat got Butler in a four-team trade involving the Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers. They had to give up Josh Richardson and Hassan Whiteside along with a protected 2023 first-round pick. The Heat also got Leonard from Portland.

Jones had a promising year for the Heat last season. The Pennsylvania native, who went undrafted in 2016, averaged 7.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in 19.2 minutes in 60 games, including 14 starts.
