Dion Waiters is undoubtedly one of the most fiery players in the NBA, especially when one talks of confidence. Averaging 14.3 points per game, it’s easy to say that he’s doing a pretty good job with the Miami Heat.

Unfortunately, Waiters has been lying low in the team’s last eight games due to his ankle injury. Though the Heat Guard isn’t told to undergo surgery by the team’s medical staff, it’s still clear that Waiters’ season would surely not perform if he opts not to have surgery.

As of now, Waiters is weighing whether to undergo the procedure or not. If he chooses to, he would be forced to sit out the remaining season.

Waiters has been initially told to have the surgery at the end of the season. But based on the on-and-off performance he’s having, a surgery as soon as possible seems to be the best call.

But it isn’t as easy as that. Waiter’s contract features a $1.1 million incentive, that is, if he can play 70 games this season. This means that he would have to play 40 more games for the Heat to get that incentive.

But then again, it seems unlikely that he’d reach that milestone. The Heat is currently the no. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference with 23-17.

Losing Waiters would surely be detrimental to the team. However, the 26-year-old thinks that his long-term health is more important than his contribution to the team this season.
