Dion Waiters of the Miami Heat is looking to put his career back on track after an injury-shortened 2017-18 season. Waiters had issues with his ankle in December before opting for ankle surgery in January, finishing the year with. just 30 games played.

But apparently, Waiters is well on his way towards recovery. The Heat guard posted on Instagram to let the world know that his doctor said he's doing great. This is a positive sign for the 26-year-old.

Exactly when Waiters will be ready to play again is still an unknown. Fortunately for Miami, Waiters seems to be thrilled with his progress so far. Waiters will likely look to return for training camp, but Miami doesn't want this injury to linger.

While Waiters may be happy with the progress, Miami will still bring him back slowly to ensure a fully healthy Waiters returns.

In two injury-shortened seasons in Miami, Waiters has played the best basketball of his career. He's averaging 15.2 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.0 rebounds in 76 games with the Heat.

The Syracuse product was instrumental in a playoff push late in the 2016-17 season, but ankle problems forced him to miss the final 13 games of the season. The Heat finished those 13 games with a 7-6 record and narrowly missed the eighth-seed.

Ankle problems have been a nagging issue for Waiters for years. If he can shake these issues and play a full season with Miami, he may be poised for a breakout year. Waiters is coming into his own as a player and there's only one thing holding him back now.
