It has been nearly a year since Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters has taken the court. After undergoing ankle surgery 10 months ago, the 27-year-old continues to slowly work his way back to fitness as he looks to make his season debut in the near future.

While his actual return date continues to be shrouded by mystery, one thing is for sure — Waiters has not lost a single ounce of his trademark confidence. Speaking to Rohan Nadkarni of Sports Illustrated, Waiters exhibited just how much self-belief he continues to possess, despite being nearly a year removed from his last NBA game.

“I know I’m better than a lot of these guys in the motherf—ing league,” Waiters says when questioned about what he can bring to the Heat. “I only gave y’all a taste. I know I can do more.”

Waiters is now in his third year for the Heat. Over the past two seasons — albeit injury-plagued — the 6-foot-4 guard was playing at a very high level. In 76 games played in the span of two season, the former fourth overall pick has averaged 15.2 points (on 41.4 percent shooting), 1.8 3-pointers, 3.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.4 blocks, and 2.3 turnovers in 30.3 minutes of action.

Those are, indeed, impressive numbers, and to some extent, Waiters' claim does have some warrant. He did say that the best is yet to come, so like him, Heat supporters are surely itching to get Waiters back on the court as soon as possible.
