Miami Heat shooting guard Dion Waiters has returned to the basketball court several months after seeing his 2017-18 season prematurely end following a surgery to repair issues on his problematic left ankle, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

That said, it will still take more time for Waiters to get his body 100 percent ready for the 2018-19 season, and there are still doubts on whether he could make it to the Heat’s opening day lineup.

Despite an ailing ankle, Waiters was able to make a good impression in Miami last season in which he played in 30 games and averaged 14.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 0.8 steals. Prior to that, he also failed to play more than 50 games in the 2016-17 campaign, appearing in only 46 games due to groin and ankle injuries.

But with the surgery done, Waiters and the Heat are hoping that the 6-foot-4 Syracuse product will be able to take full flight once he’s given a green light by his doctors.

However, there’s a possibility that Waiters’ stint in Miami may not live throughout the duration of his contract, as the Heat have reportedly flirted with the idea of trading him.

Waiters, who signed a four-year deal worth $52 million with the Heat in 2017, is due to earn $12.1 million next season and $12.6 million more in the final year of his current contract before hitting the free agent market in 2021.
