Miami Heat shooting guard Dion Waiters says his surgically repaired ankle “still feels funny sometimes,” but he claimed he hasn't suffered any setbacks in his recovery.

Dion Waiters has been practicing with the Heat lately for the first time since he underwent left ankle surgery in January. However, he admitted to Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel that he's still feeling some discomfort in his ankle after missing plenty of time recovering from the injury and subsequent surgery.

“It still feels funny sometimes,” Dion Waiters said. “Because you haven't done something in a while.”

“But as far as health-wise, it's fine. But getting back acclimated — jumping, cutting, guarding, shooting, things like that — here and there, it's good. They said that's what I was going to feel, anyway.”

Dion Waiters played in 30 games last year before undergoing season-ending surgery. In the games he appeared in last season for the Heat, Waiters averaged 14.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 39.8 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Waiters has three years and about $36 million left on his deal with Miami. Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra hasn't said when Waiters is going to play this season.
