Last summer, there was a lot of talk about the Oklahoma City Thunder possibly trading Chris Paul to the Miami Heat after acquiring him from the Houston Rockets, but it never happened.

Heat legend Dwyane Wade, who just so happens to be best friends with Paul, apparently knows why.

There were rumors that the Heat wanted their 2021 and 2023 draft picks back from the Thunder in a trade for Paul, and that was a big reason why a trade never went down.

There's also the fact that Paul was due $38,506,482 this season and $41,358,814 in 2020-21. The Heat weren't ready to pay Paul that much money and the future Hall of Famer didn't want to take a pay cut.

So, Paul stayed with the Thunder where he made the All-Star team this season, and the Heat didn't have to give up Dwyane Wade's No. 3 jersey.

Miami retired Wade's No. 3 jersey earlier this season. Flash finished his illustrious NBA career with averages of 22.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.4 assists. He was a 13-time All-Star with the Heat, as well as a three-time champion and one-time Finals MVP.

The Heat were in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings before the season was suspended. While it's fun to imagine how good Miami could have been with Chris Paul, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, everything seems to have worked out for the best for everyone.
