Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra might have hit two birds with one stone after complimenting his point guard Goran Dragic and appearing to throw some subtle shade on the disgruntled Dion Waiters.

The 33-year-old Slovenian star has fully accepted a reserve role for the Heat this year, paving the way for Justice Winslow to assume the reins at the point and allowing the emerging Kendrick Nunn to start.

Spoelstra had nothing but praises for Dragic’s professionalism, via Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sentinel.

“He has the emotional stability to be able to handle that,” Spoeslstra said of Dragic.

“It's a great luxury for us to bring an All-Star talent like him, in his prime still, but off the bench .I don't take that for granted and make sure that the team doesn't take that for granted.

“Those young guys are playing, and you have an All-Star, proven, highly decorated player and winner in this league doing that. That's a great sacrifice. That's a great example for the young guys on our team. “

Spoelstra’s comments also appear to be a direct shot to Waiters, who has yet to appear in game for Miami this season. He was suspended in the Heat’s opener for conduct detrimental to the team, but has not even appeared on the bench since the regular season began.

Interestingly, Spo talked about professionalism and talking about the bigger picture.

“I haven't forgotten that he's and All-Star. And I've talked about it all the time. Just because he's a really good guy, he a professional and he understands the big picture, that doesn't mean that it's easy or that he's signing up to come off the bench,” Spoelstra added.

Waiters has shown flashes of brilliance since joining the Heat in 2016, but his inability to stay healthy has been a major cause of concern for the Florida-based franchise. He has also been vocal about demanding for more minutes in Spoelstra’s stacked backcourt rotation.
