Could Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra be doing his team a disservice by limiting Dwyane Wade's minutes? He might be starting to think so.

Following the Heat's 116-107 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night, a game in which Wade poured in 25 points in 33 minutes, Spoelstra wondered aloud afterward what exactly he was saving the 37-year-old for:

“I think Dwyane and I are just falling back into our 2009 routine,” said Spoelstra, according to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald. “You know, what are we saving him for? We have three and a half weeks left in the regular season. We’ve load managed him all season long. Let’s just go for it.”

Wade is retiring at the end of the season, so yeah; there really isn't much reason to preserve him at this point.

On the year, the future Hall-of-Famer is averaging 14.3 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds over 25.6 minutes per game while shooting 43.6 percent from the floor, 32.3 percent from three-point range, and 68.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Due to the fact that this will be his final NBA season, Wade was named a special addition to the All-Star Game by NBA commissioner Adam Silver last month, presenting his 13th All-Star appearance overall.

Wade has spent just about all of his 16-year NBA career with the Heat, aside from the one season he was with the Chicago Bulls two years ago and the half-season he spent with the Cleveland Cavaliers before re-joining Miami last year.

He owns career averages of 22 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.7 boards a night.
