Offseason is the time for players to improve on their game and either heal injuries or get stronger and healthier before the new season begins. For Hassan Whiteside, after an injury-laden 2017-18 season with the Miami Heat, he focused on improving his speed.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald writes:

His offseason included training with Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown; training with NBA centers Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe; hiring a personal trainer for the first time and refining his post moves.

On working out “a couple times” with Brown, Whiteside said Thursday: “Antonio Brown, seeing how he works, working out with him. He runs in the sand, that’s why nobody can guard him in the NFL.

“I really wanted to get faster, my lateral speed, my overall speed. That where I’ve been working out on the beach. The game is speeding up. I really want to be very mobile. You know, my body feels great. I was in that sand, I told them I got it from Antonio Brown. So there was different drills I was doing.”

With the game continuously speeding up each year especially with the small-ball type of play becoming more effective and eventually leading teams to championship contention, Whiteside not just sought NBA All-Stars in his summer training but also NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers for a different type of workout to improve his speed.

Heat fans should be excited as their anchor on defense seeks to improve himself and contribute more with his speed and inside presence after a decline in his performance last season. Dwyane Wade's last hurrah with the Heat will be fun to watch as they have a great chance in making the postseason this year with Whiteside in the middle.
