Miami Heat forward Jae Crowder took a nasty elbow to the face from 285-pound rookie Zion Williamson in Miami's 110-104 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. As a result, Crowder has entered the NBA's concussion protocol per Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

The 6-foot-6 forward played just 11 minutes off the bench for Miami where he recorded two points and two assists while missing all three of his three-point shots.

After starting the season with the Memphis Grizzlies, Crowder was traded to the Heat in the deal that sent Justice Winslow to Memphis. Crowder has impressed with his new squad averaging 12.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game off the bench while shooting 44.3 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from deep in 12 games.

Miami is Crowder's fourth team in the last three seasons but the 29-year-old seems to have found a good home in South Beach. If he is forced to miss an extended period of time, it could hurt a Miami team that is trying to climb back up the Eastern Conference standings after going 6-7 in the month of February.

Crowder has missed six games all season and for his career, has never played less than 72 games in a season,
