Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler has now registered back-to-back big games since coming off a brief absence due to an ankle injury. On Thursday night, he led the Heat to a 112-97 win over the Washington Wizards at home.

Butler tallied all-around numbers of 32 points, three rebounds, five assists, and four steals to help the Heat improve to 11-5. It was a solid follow-up to his 30-point triple-double against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday evening.

With the way Butler has played this season, he's one of the early frontrunners for the MVP trophy, along with Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and reigning winner Nikola Jokic. But when asked about it, the Heat main man simply shrugged off the notion (via Bally Sports Sun).

“I don't need one of that. “We need a championship here. That's all we're worried about. All those individual things, they can keep it. I mean I can hear it (MVP chatter), obviously, I'm not crazy. But definitely, it doesn't do anything for me.”

Wise words.

While his remarks were surely commendable, knowing how deeply competitive Butler is, he should be thinking about his chances of winning the MVP plum. He's a guy who always has a chip on his shoulder and taking home the biggest individual award should be a shiny piece of vindication.

Butler was two wins away from getting his first title in the 2020 NBA Finals. Now that he's sniffed it, he's more hungry than ever to lead the Heat back to the championship hill.
