Miami Heat forward Justise Winslow has been turning heads with the work he’s been putting in this offseason, a source told Miami Herald columnist Barry Jackson.

A source said Justise Winslow, back from shoulder surgery that sidelined him most of last season, “has been off the board with his commitment this summer” – both in time invested in the gym and a diligence about developing his game, including his shooting.

Winslow, who was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2015 draft, played just 18 games last season before suffering his season-ending shoulder injury. He averaged 10.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals in those 18 games, but shot just 35 percent from the floor and 20 percent on three-pointers.

Even back in his college days, Winslow has been known for his high character and strong work ethic. So to hear that he’s hard at work trying to recover from a serious injury and improve a big weakness in his game shouldn’t be all too surprising.

If all of Winslow’s offseason work does produce some significant improvement on his shooting, it should only increase his chances of winning the starting small forward job over Rodney McGruder, who started the majority of last season when Winslow went down, and Josh Richardson, who recently signed a contract extension with the Heat.
