It is often forgotten that former NBA center and Michigan Wolverines legend Juwan Howard is an assistant coach with the Miami Heat. Even so, Howard may now be on the cusp of becoming a NBA head coach as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves organization.

According to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Howard has been granted permission by the Heat to interview for the Timberwolves head coach vacancy.

“Miami Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard is in play for a coaching vacancy for a third time this offseason, with the Heat granting permission for an interview with the Minnesota Timberwolves,” Winderman writes.”

It is also worth noting that Howard previously interviewed with both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers. However, Cleveland ultimately hired another former Michigan man Wolverines head coach John Beilein with Los Angeles eventually going with longtime NBA head coach Frank Vogel.

On the other hand, the Timberwolves were initially believed to be leaning toward keeping interim head coach Ryan Saunders at the helm in Minnesota. However, new President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas is making due diligence in determining the best route for Minnesota.

The Timberwolves, despite having a young core of big man Karl-Anthony Towns and swingman Andrew Wiggins, notably missed out on the postseason this 2018-19 campaign.
