From Kendrick Perkins' observation, Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler's choice to list himself as a forward instead of guard hurt his chance to start in the All-Star game

Via Twitter, Perkins is still confident that Butler will be an All-Star this year.

The NBA recently released the starters pool for both East and West. For the East, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, Pascal Siakam, Kemba Walker, and Trae Young were selected as starters.

Given the starters for the East, it's difficult to tell if Butler would've been a starter if he listed himself as a guard. While Butler has been nothing but stellar for the Heat, the other guards have also been making their own mark.

Walker has been doing terrific things in his first year with the Celtics. He has perfectly synced with Brad Stevens' system. Not to mention the chemistry he has with the Celtic's young guns.

Young, meanwhile, is also raising eyebrows in just his second year in the league. He was once compared to Stephen Curry for his unlimited range. But now, Young has made a name for himself.

Fans accounted for 50 percent of the vote to determine the NBA All-Star Game starters, while current NBA players and a media panel accounted for 25 percent each.

Butler will join Heat teammate Bam Adebayo, Washington’s Bradley Beal, Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons, Boston’s Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum, Indiana’s Domantas Sabonis, and Toronto’s Kyle Lowry in the list of potential reserves from the Eastern Conference.

The reserves will be announced next Thursday exclusively on TNT.
