The Miami Heat have signed forward Jarnell Stokes, who last played for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, to a contract for the 2018-19 NBA season.

Stokes has NBA experience, having played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Heat, and Denver Nuggets before his stint in the G-League.

Unfortunately, the former 35th overall pick in the 2014 draft did not put up impressive NBA numbers and never averaged more than three points a game in sparing minutes.

After his demotion to the G-League, Stokes immediately starting turning heads.  In 28 games with the Skyforce, he averaged 20.6 pts and 9.3 rebounds a game and ended up winning not only the League MVP but the G-League Finals MVP as well after the Skyforce defeated the L.A. D-Fenders in the finals.

This stretch proved he could still play ball and had some potential in him. After a short time in the CBA with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls, Stokes is now back in the league and looking to stick around.

He joins a Heat team that is loaded with roster depth but lacks a true superstar to lead the team.

The forward spots right now have been occupied by James Johnson, Justise Winslow, Kelly Olynyk, and Edrice “Bam” Adebayo.

All players have become key pieces to a rugged and scrappy Heat team, and Stokes will have to impress before the regular season if he looks to crack the rotation and get regular laying time.

Hopefully this time, he can carve out a place for himself in the league.
