The Miami Heat are finalizing a sign-and-trade to acquire Jimmy Butler from the Philadelphia 76ers, Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Shams Charania reports that the Sixers are getting Josh Richardson in the deal.

The Heat (via Philly) are prepared to ink Butler to a four-year max contract. Butler infamously said in an interview while he was with the Chicago Bulls that the one thing he’d “never wear” is a Miami Heat jersey.

The Houston Rockets were also interested in signing-and-trading for the four-time All-Star in order to combine forces with star guards Chris Paul and James Harden.

The Sixers have simultaneously signed free agent big man Al Horford, who will likely be paired in the frontcourt with All-NBA center Joel Embiid.

Philly, after re-signing Tobias Harris, a midseason acquisition this past year, could field a potential starting lineup that includes Ben Simmons (who is discussing a contract extension with the franchise), Josh Richardson, Harris, Horford, and Embiid.

Richardson is a four-year veteran wing who was taken 10th in the second round (40th overall) by the Miami Heat in the 2015 NBA Draft. He averaged 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game in 259 career appearances for Miami, shooting 42.5% from the field, 36.8% from deep, and 82.1% from the free throw line. Richardson has made noticeable improvements season by season, averaging 16.6 points and dishing out 4.1 assists per game this past season.

Butler, meanwhile, is a former Most Improved Player and four-time All-Defensive Team honoree. Outside of his meager numbers during his first two years in the Association, Butler has averaged 19.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game in 36.9 minutes per contest and 399 total appearances. He has shot 45.3% from the field, 33.9% from 3-point range, and 83.9% from the charity stripe in that six-year span.

Butler is known to be a ferocious competitor, a vicious on-ball defender with a nose for steals. He shoots well in the clutch at the other end of the floor.
