PJ Tucker is opting out of his contract with the Miami Heat and will instead test free agency after just one season with the South Beach franchise.

As Shams Charania of The Athletic reported, Tucker is declining his $7.4 million option with the Heat. While he is already 37 years old, the veteran forward is expected to generate significant interest from several title contenders after his exploits in his lone year in Miami.

PJ Tucker was a crucial part of the Heat's roster in 2021-22, and it speaks volumes of his ability that head coach Erik Spoelstra started him in 70 of the 71 games he played for the team.

While the Heat signed him for his defense, Tucker also showed his offensive chops in Miami and was a solid contributor on that end as he averaged 7.6 points on 48.4 percent shooting. It's his highest scoring production since the 2015-16 season.

It remains to be seen which team will land Tucker, though it isn't surprising that a lot of teams are interested in his services. After all, he has championship experience after winning the title with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2020-21.

Even though it is uncertain if Tucker can command the same amount of money he declined from the Heat, perhaps he could land a longer deal with a championship contender.
