Since the year 2000, the Miami Heat has become one of the more successful teams in the NBA. They have captured three championships, and have made it to the playoffs 12 times.

While many may think that having a lot of talent on their roster is the secret to their success, former player, and the team's current Director of Basketball Analytics and Development, Shane Battier, shared the secret of every great Heat team.

The 38-year-old Duke product recently spoke with Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, where he surprisingly said that being an ensemble has made them reach a lot of success together.  He then added that it has been their mindset before and has not changed until now.

“The secret is every great Miami Heat team has been an ensemble team to an extent, even in the Big Three era,” he said Monday. “Even though we had names that were a little larger on the marquee, it was an ensemble effort and that's what this franchise has been built upon.

“In the best years, it's been ensemble teams. I don't think that our mindset has changed, if we're trying to get the best team possible.”

It's no secret that Battier is a big fan of music. He has hosted his annual videoke event, with the title “Battieoke,” where his former teammates and other notable figures in the Heat organization have participated in. It has also served as an opportunity for them to bond and further strengthen their relationships.

Coming off a rare season where they missed out on the playoffs, the Heat are looking to bounce back and prove that their culture is the difference maker and that they can make a postseason appearance without an All-Star in their lineup.

They have made key additions to their roster, like the signing of Kelly Olynyk, and drafting Bam Adebayo, which they hope is enough to take them to the next level and compete better in the Eastern Conference.

However, with Battier back in their fold, it can be expected that he'll promote being an ensemble to everyone in order to be a winning group again.
