The worst-case scenario occurred for the Miami Heat in a loss to the Golden State Warriors this past Wednesday. Trailing a shorthanded Warriors squad in the third quarter, tempers flared on the Heat bench, as star forward Jimmy Butler and head coach Erik Spoelstra got into an animated argument and needed to be separated by team members and assistant coaches. Many wondered if the relationship between the two was strained, especially considering the fact that the two nearly came to blows. Five Reasons Sports has the latest on the Butler-Spoelstra relationship.

Interesting. According to Five Reasons Sports, Butler and Spoelstra have spoken often since the bench blowup, with the discussions being termed as “productive and healthy.” That's good news for the Heat.

However, it's somewhat concerning that the team's best player and their head coach have struggled to “directly communicate” with each other.

As noted by Five Reasons Sports, it's a positive that things were expressed directly and out in the open between Butler and Spoelstra, though it's obviously not the way the Heat organization wanted it to happen.

It seems like Butler and Spoelstra are aiming to communicate better with each other following the incident, which is all fans- and the organization- can hope for. The Heat are positioned well as the first seed in the Eastern Conference and have a chance to make a run at the NBA Finals for the second time in the last three seasons.

In order to do that, the Heat will need Butler and Spoelstra to have a good working relationship. It appears that the two are on the right track to having just that.
