Tyler Herro has had a roller coaster of a calendar year. The Miami Heat star went from NBA bubble star and breakout candidate to one of the biggest disappointments in his sophomore season.

The Heat guard was adamant that the skills and level of play he's shown are legit – but the issues were all in his head.

Via Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press:

“Last year, it was all mental,” Herro said. “I didn’t enjoy coming into work every day.”

Herro claimed that it was the chorus of critics he heard on the daily that hurt his psyche despite knowing he's a full-on disciple of the famous Heat culture.

“For me, one of the biggest things was hearing people say that I partied too much, that I’m not in the gym, that I don’t love the gym,” added the Heat star. “If you knew me, you’d know I try to be the hardest-working dude out here. So, I think you’ll see that this year.”

One huge motivator for Tyler Herro coming into next season was the birth of his daughter, just over a month before the Heat's season starts. Papa Herro is ready to show the world, or at the very least his baby girl, that he puts in the work.

“I just feel good,” he said. “I feel like I have a reason now. Not that I didn’t before. But now I have another reason to be motivated every single day when I walk into the arena. I have to be the best I can every single day because I have a daughter now. And I’m in a very good spot right now.”

Tyler Herro is still just 21 years old and has all the potential in the world. Heat fans hope his sophomore season was just a blip in what could otherwise be an All-Star laden career.
