Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro is expected to play a major role for the team this season. Selected 13th overall in this year's draft, the Heat already sees him as a foundational piece of the team's future. President Pat Riley believes that he can be an All-Star someday, too, despite the fact that he hasn't played an official NBA game yet.

Herro knows all of this and is working hard to be able to meet the Heat's standards. He's confident that he will have a great rookie year, but he also understands that he needs to work on some aspects of his game in order to get better.

Per The Athletic's Shandel Richardson, Herro said that one of the things that he's working on this summer is his defense because he believes that it is key to him getting a significant amount of playing time next season,

“If you want to see the floor, I think it’s going to start on the defensive end. We’ve been working hard these last couple of week on defense, not just offense.”

As a guard, Herro will have tough assignments on a nightly basis. He will have to defend guys like Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Russell Westbrook, Damian Lillard, and Luka Doncic at times, likely being targeted by the opposing team on switches due to his youth and lack of top-tier physical tools. He's not expected to be able to neutralize those guys right from the get-go, but seeing him work on his defense is an encouraging sign for the Heat.

It will only be a matter of time before Herro proves to everyone what he's really capable of.
