Miami Heat rookie shooting guard Tyler Herro is out for Wednesday night's game against the San Antonio Spurs due to a left knee bruise, according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald:

The injury does not appear to be serious though, as Herro was essentially a game-time decision.

This will be just the second inactive of the season for Herro, who is averaging 13.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in his first 38 appearances.

The former Kentucky standout has given the Heat a reliable playmaker alongside Jimmy Butler, and Herro has also played heavy minutes in the absence of Justise Winslow for the majority of the first half of the season. More importantly, the 19-year-old rookie has been extremely clutch on numerous occasions.

Herro poured in 27 points and hit the go-ahead three-pointer in an overtime win over the Chicago Bulls on Dec. 8, and he made the gutsy decision to hoist a trey in transition to beat the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 28.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari recently told Dave Hyde of the South Florida Sun Sentinel that he believes Herro landed in the “perfect” place:

“I used to bust him down a little bit in practice, and he’d look at me like, ‘There’s nothing you can do too hard – give me more,’ ‘’ Calipari said of Tyler Herro. “I’d say we’re doing extra work for March. He’d say, ‘Do more.’ He was in there every night. He was obsessed with being in a gym.

“That’s why I said, ‘Miami’s perfect for you. You’re into basketball. That culture is perfect for you.’ And look how good it is.”

Herro has helped the Heat to a 27-12 start, but Miami continue to struggle on the road. The team fell to 10-11 on the road after losing to the New York Knicks on Sunday.

The Heat will look to bounce back at home against the Spurs, but their rookie will watch from the bench.
