Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro prematurely exited Friday's game versus the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center due to a right hip contusion. The 21-year-old sharpshooter suffered the injury in the first half and was immediately deemed questionable to return for the rest of the contest, the team announced on Twitter.

Herro managed to log in 14 minutes against the reigning champions,  tallying five points on 2-of-5 shooting along with four boards and three dimes. The promising sophomore has been averaging 17.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists on a 45.2 percent shooting clip from the field and 34.4 percent from deep prior to Saturday's contest.

The sophomore guard was the toast of the league last season for his impressive play for the Heat inside the NBA Bubble at Walt Disney World. The Kentucky product dazzled in Miami's Cinderella run to the Finals and was a big factor in their bridesmaid finish. Miami has pegged him as a strong building block for their future, even  reportedly refusing to put him in a possible deal for James Harden earlier in the 2019-20 season.

Miami has been taking flak for that decision as of late, considering The Beard has elevated the Brooklyn Nets to legitimate title contenders with his brilliant play so far. Tyler Herro and the Heat, meanwhile, have failed to replicate their strong campaign last season, entering Saturday's match-up as the 10th seed in the East with a 12-17 slate.

Regardless if Miami made the right call on keeping Herro or not, the 6-foot-5 marksman's absence could further hurt the Heat's chances of breaking into the Top 8 in the division.
