Tyler Herro played a crucial role for the Miami Heat this season. He averaged over 20 points per game and won the 6th Man of the Year award. However, Herro expects even bigger things in 2022-2023.

He was asked about his thoughts on starting next season as compared to playing the 6th man role during a press conference.

“Yeah for sure. In someway I would like to start. It's my fourth year, I think I've earned it. We'll see what happens.”

Some players such as Jamal Crawford have previously excelled in full-time 6th man roles. However, Tyler Herro is still young and doesn't want to be a career long non-starter.

The narrative surrounding the Miami Heat following their Eastern Conference Playoff loss against the Celtics is that they need another star. But Herro could become that co-star alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo if he starts on a regular basis.

Herro was also asked about a potential contract extension with the Heat.

“We'll see what happens.”

Herro's blunt response suggests that nothing is currently in the works. However, it is also possible that Herro simply didn't want to start rumors. Either way, it will be interesting to see if he gets an extension from Miami.

The 22-year old guard is currently under contract though next season. But he is eligible for a rookie extension this offseason since he is still in his rookie contract with the Heat.

Tyler Herro very well could take the next step in his development next year. However, there are a number of different opinions on what the Heat should do in regards to offering him a max extension. Some people fully believe he deserves it, while others are not so sure.
