The Miami Heat re-signed guard Victor Oladipo to a new deal on the first day of free agency last week after a brief stint with the team in 2021-22. Although Oladipo didn't play a lot because of injuries, he certainly made his presence felt in short period of time.

On Thursday, Oladipo revealed why he chose the Heat over other offers. Via Ira Winderman:

Victor Oladipo on his new Heat contract, “It was just the best deal for me.” Said others still were “shying away,” in the wake of his injury history. “It's tough whenever you face adversity.”

That certainly makes sense. Oladipo hasn't played much across the last few seasons due to health issues which means other organizations were definitely shy to give him a contract. But, the Heat knows what he's capable of and believe the former Indiana Hoosier can be a regular contributor in their backcourt.

In 12 regular-season games last season, Victor Oladipo averaged 12.4 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.9 rebounds in eight outings while shooting 41% from deep after recovering from quadriceps surgery. In the postseason, he did step in and get some substantial minutes when Kyle Lowry was hurt too, putting up around 10 points per contest in series against the Celtics and 76ers.

Oladipo might not be the same All-Star caliber talent he was before all the injury problems, but he's a gritty player with a great work ethic who fits the mold of what Miami likes. If Victor Oladipo can actually stay healthy throughout the course of the campaign, who knows, maybe he can even compete for a starting spot. It's definitely possible.
