Based on the latest reports, the Miami Heat are set to lose PJ Tucker to the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency. However, Jimmy Butler and the South Beach franchise are still not losing hope they can re-sign him.

Tucker recently declined his $7.4 million option with the Heat to become a free agent. While the Heat are expected to offer him a new and better deal, it also opened up the possibility of other franchises stealing him. That seem to be the case, with the Sixers jumping in and offering him a three-year, $30 million contract.

It is said to be a “done deal,” with the Sixers even having James Harden opt out of his contract to create that cap flexibility they need to pursue Tucker.

According to Barry Jackson of Miami Herald, though, Butler and the rest of the roster are doing their best to convince Tucker to sign and stay with the Heat.

But Heat players are said to be lobbying Tucker to remain with the team. Butler is very much hoping he re-signs with Miami.

Unfortunately for Jimmy Butler and the Heat, the organization seems reluctant when it comes to matching the Sixers' offer. Apparently, the best they could give PJ Tucker is a three-year, $27 million contract.

The Heat don't want to give Tucker the full midlevel exception because it will push them closer to the luxury tax and make them hard-capped next at $156.9 million next season, per Jackson.

It's unknown how Miami will navigate the situation, but by the looks of it, fans shouldn't have their hopes up of retaining Tucker.
