During an anonymous All-Star Weekend poll released by ESPN, players considered the Miami Heat as one of LeBron James' likely destinations during this upcoming summer.

According to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, this idea is a sheer fantasy — a reunion unlikely to happen.

“He’s not [coming back to Miami]. But the fact when ESPN polled 48 players about what they thought might happen with LeBron that they even mentioned the Heat shows that, at worst, the Heat remain relevant in players’ consciousness,” Winderman wrote. “Basically, the NBA players polled still consider the Heat a desirable landing spot. And that is a good thing. But I cannot fathom, as you pointed out, the Heat having enough on their roster to attract such a level of free agent. There was a time when I thought Hassan Whiteside could have been such a lure, but with his role minimized, I don’t see that as the case anymore.”

South Beach has become a much more attractive landing spot since James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh partied it up as part of a Miami-Vice-like clique during their four years together.

Yet the massive overhaul which would have to take place in order to position the franchise in a place to be able to absorb James' superstar contract would be a complete demolition of the team's exoskeleton, as it sits now.

Having signed Hassan Whiteside, Dion Waiters, and James Johnson to long-term deals, the Heat will have to shed one or more of those contracts to even entertain a potential reunion with James.
