The Miami Heat are wondering what to do.

With a bunch of players but no star, and a fourth-place record in the Eastern Conference, the Heat find themselves in an interesting possession.

Last season, they ran off 30 wins in the final 41 games and barely missed the playoffs. This year, the organization is looking for a way it could make some real noise in the playoffs despite having a hodgepodge of NBA players, per Zach Lowe of ESPN.

They know they face major questions about their ceiling. Expect Miami to be active in trying to address them as next month's trade deadline approaches. They are projecting optimism that they could move those pricey new contracts, according to sources around the league. Rivals are skeptical.

Goran Dragic and Hassan Whiteside could be considered the cornerstones of this Heat team, so to speak. They are, at the very least, the team's best players. Dion Waiters has also had a somewhat solid year as the team's second-leading scorer.

After that, however, the team has players that potentially wouldn't make an NBA roster now or have been let go from other teams, such as Kelly Olynyk and Wayne Ellington.

The way Miami plays is as egalitarian as it gets. Eight players average double figures on the team. That's quite rare in the NBA.

It's conceivable that the Heat could trade some of their young talent — Justise Winslow and Tyler Johnson come to mind — but it remains to be seen just how much value those players have.
