Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic was almost traded to the Dallas Mavericks this past summer before the Mavs decided not to acquire the lefty.

The Mavs didn’t want to add Dragic’s $19.2 million contract to their salary cap. The Heat were in the process of acquiring Jimmy Butler from the Philadelphia 76ers in a sign-and-trade deal.

In the end, Dragic stayed in South Beach and the Heat are happy with the way things turned out.

“We’re all glad that deal didn’t happen,” a Heat official told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Dragic averaged 13.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists last season while shooting 41.3 percent from the field, 34.8 percent from beyond the arc and 78.2 percent from the free-throw line. He recorded four double-doubles and one triple-double.

This season for the Heat, Dragic is coming off the bench. He's putting up 15.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists. Dragic is making $19.2 million this season, the final year of his contract. The veteran signed a five-year, $85 million extension with the Heat in the summer of 2015.

Miami rookie Kendrick Nunn has been starting for the Heat and he has been playing great. The Chicago native is averaging 16.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

Dragic has to be considered one of the best bench players in the NBA since he’s been a starter for most of his career.
