The Miami Heat did not exactly move the needle when they had the chance during the February trade deadline. While other title contenders did their bit to strengthen their roster ahead of the grueling run ahead, Pat Riley and his front office decided that they were more than happy to battle it out with the men they had on their roster.

Unsurprisingly, though, the Heat still did their due diligence. According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, Miami was actually linked to a potential move for Houston Rockets big man Christian Wood:

Miami has hopes of adding a further frontcourt presence alongside Adebayo, sources said, and has shown known interest in Christian Wood and PJ Washington.

Wood saw his name dragged into several trade rumors around the trade deadline. Nevertheless, he ended up staying in Houston with the Rockets deciding to keep their prized big man — for the time being at least.

After this season, Wood still has one more year remaining on his current deal. He's going to enter free agency in the summer of 2023, which makes him a prized commodity this offseason. If the Rockets opt not to extend his deal then the best time to trade him would be this summer. You can be sure that the Heat will be monitoring that situation closely.
