J.R. Smith has been the topic of trade rumors throughout the last year and the Cleveland Cavaliers have been searching for a trade partner. Now, it appears that one could be emerging. The Miami Heat have a need for more offense and they could look to acquire him on draft night.

According to NBA analyst Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Heat could try to trade the No. 13 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft to Cleveland in exchange for Smith and the No. 26 overall pick.

This would be an intriguing trade for both teams. Cleveland would be getting another lottery pick to couple with the No. 5 overall pick. There are going to be plenty of talented options available late in the lottery.

Miami, on the other hand, would be getting an offensive scorer to help replace the loss of Dwyane Wade at shooting guard. Smith is a deadly three-point shooter and could replace the role that Dion Waiters played last season. Waiters may still be a fit in Miami even with Smith, but they have very similar styles.

Smith played in just 11 games with the Cavs in the 2018-19 season. He averaged just 6.7 points per game to go along with 1.9 assists and 1.6 rebounds. In addition to those numbers, he shot just 34.2 percent from the field overall and 30.8 percent from the three-point arc.

It's obvious that a change of scenery was needed and Miami could offer him the kind of role that he wants.

Expect to hear plenty more rumors in the coming hours with the NBA Draft right around the corner. Smith may not end up getting moved on draft night, but it's a good bet that he won't be on the Cavaliers' roster to start next season.
