The Philadelphia 76ers are a team with a ton of talent that just didn't seem to be maximizing it. Brett Brown led the team through The Process, but it looks like the Sixers needed someone else to take them farther than the second round of the playoffs. The franchise and Sixers fans hope Doc Rivers is that coach.

On the daily Locked On 76ers Podcast, host Keith Pompey explains why the hiring of Doc Rivers is bigger than basketball for the Sixers and how Doc brings credibility to the franchise.

Keith Pompey: Now, the thing for me with Doc Rivers is bigger than just a coach. When you think about where the 76ers are, their credibility is in shambles. They relied heavily, heavily, heavily, heavily on analytics. You think of all the failures they had while relying heavily on analytics. I think they had to do a reboot. When you look at a guy like Doc Rivers, right now, he becomes the face of the franchise. He does. He's the face. I know you have Joel Embiid, I know you have Ben Simmons, you have Tobias Harris in the wings, you have Al Horford, you have Josh Richardson, you have that starting lineup.

Right now when they come out and they need a spokesperson for the team, it's going to be Doc. He has that type of personality. To me, this hire is bigger than just Xs & Os, right? I'm not saying that he is not excellent. I'm saying it is bigger than Xs & Os, because right now, now again, we say that he improved the credibility of the franchise.
