The Vampire Survivors-inspired fan game HoloCure features the Virtual YouTubers of Hololive, is taking the world by storm.
HoloCure: Save The Fans! is created by a small group consisting of Kay Yu (most notable for being the lead sprite animator of River City Girls), DuDuL, and Smpletan. The background music of the game, created by eufrik, are remixes of Hololive songs.
The game released its first build on June 24, 2022. In less than 24 hours, its leaderboard had to be turned off “due to the INCREDIBLE amount of people playing,” according to creator Kay Yu. In a tweet, they said that they “anticipated maybe a few thousand people to play, which seemed reasonable, but it turns out there are almost 50,000 downloads in less than 24 hours, and 20gbs worth of data downloaded from the scores database.”
“It's pretty insane, but I'm super thankful for you all playing.”
As of the time of writing, HoloCure currently has 11 playable characters, all members of HoloEN, Hololive's English branch. This includes Mori Calliope, Takanashi Kiara, Gawr Gura, Amelia Watson, Ninomae Inanis, IRyS, Ouro Kronii, Nanashi Mumei, Tsukumo Sana, Ceres Fauna, and Hakos Baelz. Future updates will include members of Hololive's Indonesian and Japanese branches.
HoloCure follows the formula of Vampire Survivors – collect weapons and passives, and evolve them to last as long as possible. The enemies and items are references to Hololive characters and mascots, which makes playing the game even more fun for the fans.
