Charlotte Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak says the franchise will do everything it can to re-sign All-Star point guard Kemba Walker this summer.

Walker becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1 for the first time in his NBA career.

The Hornets missed the playoffs this season. Walker has only been to the postseason twice with Charlotte since he was drafted back in 2012.

Walker had another stellar season for the Hornets in 2018-19. He averaged 25.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game while shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 35.6 percent from beyond the arc and 84.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Hornets have done a poor job of constructing a talented roster around Walker. There was a game this season where Walker scored nearly 89 percent of the starters' point total. Charlotte lost that game to the Utah Jazz.

There was another game this season against the Philadelphia 76ers where Walker scored 60 points. As you might guess, the Hornets lost that game as well. The All-Star guard has said publicly he wants to remain in Charlotte for his entire career, but Walker might be better suited to leave the organization and join a contender.

For a star player like Walker to only see the postseason two times is unfortunate.
