Charlotte Hornets small forward Kelly Oubre Jr. did something that no one has ever done in franchise history. Oubre Jr. scored 37 points off the bench. He did it efficiently on 13-17 shooting. He also tied his career-best seven 3's in the Hornets 118-108 win at Memphis.

Oubre Jr. is in his first season with the Charlotte Hornets after a brief stint with Golden State. He has had an up and down season so far, and had struggled of late. He had scored in single digits in four of his previous five games entering Wednesday.

Then, he exploded on the Grizzlies. Team Owner Michael Jordan could be proud of this line.

Charlotte was desperate for a win, snapping their 5-game losing streak. The Hornets got solid contributions from veteran Gordon Hayward who chipped in 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Lamelo Ball almost triple doubled, posting 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

In the loss, Ja Morant continued his insane start to the season. He dropped 31 points with eight assists and seven rebounds in the loss.

Charlotte was hoping the player they acquired was the one who excelled in Phoenix. While a member of the Suns, Oubre Jr. was a good scorer, but one of the best defenders in the league. With the depth of the Hornets roster, it's been difficult for head coach James Borrego to get him minutes.

He is averaging just over 26 minutes per game. That's the least he has played in three years.

The Hornets hope this is a sign of things to come as they continue to fight for positioning in the deep Eastern Conference.
