Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball took the unconventional route to the NBA. He went overseas, played pro, then eventually got selected No. 2 overall by the Hornets in the 2020 NBA Draft. The rest is history.

Ball was not a fan of going to college and in a recent interview with GQ, he made that very, very clear.

“You wanna go to the league, so school's not your priority. We not trippin' off school. We not dumb. We know how to learn. We don't need school. And school not even teachin' you shit—what the f*ck is school?”, LaMelo Ball said.

Absolutely savage from Ball. But, after all, his journey worked out perfectly. The reigning Rookie of the Year opted to leave high school at 16-years-old to play professionally in Lithuania alongside his brother LiAngelo, who also gave up college after a short stint at UCLA. After that, LaMelo Ball took his talents to the NBL in Australia where he really made a name for himself which helped his draft stock.

Lonzo is the only Ball brother to actually last a whole year in college, spending his lone season with the Bruins. LaMelo Ball would never put down his brother for doing so, but it's pretty obvious that he hasn't needed school at any point.

With the NBA always being his goal, hitting the books wasn't a priority. I'd say it's working out just fine for Ball as the franchise piece for the Hornets.
