LaVar Ball's days outside the limelight are officially over. The vocal patriarch of the Ball family has once again returned to mainstream significance after the Charlotte Hornets selected his son, LaMelo Ball, as the third overall pick in the recently-concluded NBA Draft.

LaVar isn't messing around right now. In true LaVar fashion, he just guaranteed that his son, LaMelo, is going to win the Rookie of the Year award for the upcoming season. The cameras of TMZ Sports recently caught up with LaVar, and this is what he had to say about LaMelo's ROY chances in the upcoming campaign:

“Teaming up with Michael Jordan and you can't get Rookie of the Year? Are you crazy?” LaVar said, via Tim Daniels of Bleacher Report.

It is not at all surprising that LaVar Ball is running his mouth, now that the spotlight is shining brightly on his family once again. He was out of the picture for quite some time, when his eldest son, Lonzo, left the high-profile world in Hollywood to join the New Orleans Pelicans. LaVar is officially back now, though, and he is clearly back with a vengeance.

To be fair, LaMelo is without a doubt one of the biggest talents in his draft class. The fact that the Hornets guard played professionally overseas last season gives him an edge over his fellow rookies in terms of experience and possessing an NBA-ready game. Then again, he will need to contend against some generational talents such as Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman — to name a few — for the coveted Rookie of the Year title. What is clear at this point is that this is building up to be quite a memorable race.
