Charlotte Hornets forward Marvin Williams has decided to exercise his $15 million player option for the 2019-20 NBA season, according to an official report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

By picking up his player option, Williams will have the opportunity to remain with the Hornets, unless he is moved in an unforeseen deal.

Williams, now 33 years of age, has established himself as a solid option on both ends of the floor. The former No. 2 overall pick made 75 appearances with the Hornets last season (all starts), racking up averages of 10.1 points on 42.2 percent shooting from the field (36.6 percent from beyond the arc), 5.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists and just under one steal (0.9) in 28.4 minutes per outing.

Williams signed a four-year, $54.5 million contract with the Hornets in 2016. He'll earn roughly $15 million in the final year of that deal.

The fact that Williams is picking up his option leaves the Hornets in a bit of a tough spot, as the team will still need cap space to retain Kemba Walker and Jermey Lamb.

The Hornets finished the 2018-19 regular season with a 39-43 overall record, which left the team out of playoff contention. If Charlotte is able to keep the majority of their core intact, they could make a run for the playoffs next season. Williams will look to play a role in that process.
